The Boom Sprayer training course is held in the Castleblayney Community Enterprise Centre and aimed at people working with pesticides (eg Farmers, landscapers, green keepers and vegetable growers).  This course’s purpose is to equip the learner with the knowledge, practical skill and competence to apply pesticides using a Boom sprayer in accordance with safe practices.

Candidates must be over the age of 16. 1 years experience operating tractors and sprayers is essential.  Candidates must also have the relevant life and work experience.

BOOM Sprayer Pesticide Application                                 

Aim: The Boom Sprayer Pesticide Training programme aims to ensure the safe and effective use of equipment and consumables required to apply pesticides using a boom sprayer.

Delivery:  Participants will engage in independent learning outside of formal training supported by an FRS tutor. The course is delivered using a combination of classroom based tutorials along with practical training outside.

What award do I receive? After successful completion of the Boom training course, each learner will receive a QQI level 5 certificate in Boom Sprayer Pesticide Application (5N1797).

Course Duration: The Boom sprayer course is delivered over 2 non- consecutive days plus assessment from 10am – 4.30pm each day.

Entry Requirements: Candidates must be over 16 years old and have at least 1 year experience operating tractors and sprayers.  Each candidate must bring their own PPE- masks, overall, gloves, safety boots and a Hi Vis jacket on day 2 of the course.

Boom Sprayer Course Details

 

Topics covered include:

  • Explain how infestations of pests (weeds, diseases, insects and vertebrates) affect crop growth and reduce quality
  • Outline the range of pest control methods available to farmers and growers
  • Describe principles and procedures for the safe handling, storage, application and disposal of pesticides including using appropriate PPE
  • Summarise laws and regulations relating to poisonous substances to include pesticide residues and maintenance of adequate records
  • Prepare boom sprayer for work, including calibration, in accordance with safe recommendation and good practice using the manufacturers instructions
  • Making a pesticide spray mix in accordance with good practice including the pesticide product label dosage recommendations and the application area
  • Store a boom sprayer and PPE in a safe and efficient manner according to manufactures instructions

 

Accreditation

After successful completion of the 2-day Boom spray Pesticide Application course, candidates will achieve a QQI Level 5 minor award (5N1797).
