The Safe Pass programme aims to:  

Raise the standard of safety awareness in the Irish construction industry and ensure that all construction site workers undergo basic health and safety awareness training with the view to making a positive contribution to the prevention of accidents and avoidance of health hazards. Maintain a register of construction site and local authority workers who have received such health and safety training. Provide all Safe Pass participants with a Safe Pass registration card that will indicate that the holders have attended a formal course in health and safety awareness.

Safe Pass Course

Aim: The Safe Pass Course Health and Safety Awareness Training Programme aims to ensure that all construction workers in Ireland have a basic knowledge of health and safety.  There is a legal requirement for all workers at construction sites to have completed Safe Pass Training prior to presenting on a construction site.

Delivery: The Safe Pass course is delivered by SOLAS Approved training tutors. This course is classroom based using power-point presentation with discussions & supplemented by videos. The course is delivered through the English language only. 

What award do I receive? Within 3-4 weeks after successful completion of the Safe Pass training programme, you will be issued with a Safe Pass Registration Card, which is valid for 4 years from the date of the training course. 

Course Duration: The Safe Pass course is a one day programme which runs from 8am – 5pm (registration for the programme starts at 7:45am so you are required to be present at that time.) 

Entry Requirements: 1 passport photo, (Castleblayney do not provide the facility for taking photographs) a valid Irish PPS number and photo I.D eg drivers license or passport.  You also need a good standard of spoken and written English. 

How much does it cost? The course fee is €140. We accept cash or card payments.

What is the minimum age for attendance: You must be at least 16 years of age to attend.

What is the minimum and maximum numbers for Safe Pass courses:  The minimum is 8 people and the maximum is 20.

Applying for a PPS number: An online PPS Number application service is available at mywelfare.ie for people living in Ireland who are at least 18 years of age.  In order to apply for a PPS Number online, you will need to have a basic MyGovID account.  If you don’t have a My GovID account, you can apply for one here.

 Accreditation 

Candidates who are successful in the written assessment at the end of the day will be awarded a Safe Pass card no later than fifteen days following the course.  This is valid for four years.
